Dear Members of the Forest Hill Family,
The next weeks in the life of Forest Hill may be the most important we’ve experienced in years. Certainly the ramifications of these weeks could be felt throughout the Charlotte area for decades to come.
What is happening? We begin a new sermon series entitled “So That!” The purpose is to introduce a capital campaign. Over the next couple of months, the Council of Elders leadership will ask the Forest Hill family to raise $7 million. With this money we want to expand our extension influence into Ballantyne, Rock Hill/Fort Mill and Uptown over the next five years. Each extension will have its own “home” and be able to attract more people and spiritual seekers. We desire to reach as many new believers as possible in these and other areas throughout our city.
Therefore, this series will state and restate what we’re trying to accomplish. We’ll examine our mission statement: Reach, Transform and Serve. We’ll refocus our lives on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the one and only unique offering the church has to give to the world. We’ll outline the plan specifically for all to understand. Finally, we’ll ask the Forest Hill family for a “gulp gift,” a sacrificial financial gift to reach our $7 million goal. It will be a gift where you will have to give up something you may want for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.
Why did we choose the title, “So That!” Because our life is either a “So What?” or a “So That!” At the end of our life, if all we’ve done is use God’s gifts for earthly things, our life is a “So What?” What does it matter? If it doesn’t advance God’s kingdom, so what? Instead, God wants us to use our life for eternity, SO THAT when we get to heaven He is pleased with how we’ve used the gifts He has loaned us on this side of eternity.
You’ll hear much more over the next months. Please pray for this campaign. Again, its eternal ramifications for this city and beyond are enormous. The leadership covets your prayers.
Under His Grace,
David Chadwick
