Baptism

Baptism is the public proclamation of one’s personal profession of trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. At Forest Hill we say that it is the way Christians “draw a line in the sand” or “drive a stake into the ground” that once and for all identifies them as a follower of Jesus Christ. We observe baptism in obedience to our Lord’s command (Matt. 28:18-20) and in reverence of His example to us (Matt. 3:13-17). Ultimately, it is a special celebration of new life!  We offer the opportunity of baptism for adults and families about 6 times each year and then on some special occasions. It is usually done at the end of each of our worship services on the designated days giving all attenders the chance to celebrate their faith and trust in Christ in this exciting way. Those interested need to speak with one of our church’s spiritual leaders immediately prior to their baptism and simply share their story of faith in Christ expressing their love and commitment to Jesus Christ in obedience.

We also offer a one time Baptism class for adults usually the months prior to and following a baptism service. The purpose is to clarify and reinforce the biblical foundations and spiritual implications of this sacred, New Testament sacrament. Though not mandatory, this class is very beneficial for those pursuing the prospect of being baptized as well as to encourage and assure those who have.  We do ask that those who attend the class, register through our online website and complete the downloadable application. Since the application is essentially a way for those interested to actually think through and articulate their unique journey of faith, we recommend this application for any and all seeking to be baptized whether they take the class or not. You can then bring it with you to the class or mail it into our office and we will hold this as a testimony of your steps of faith and connection with God.

For baptism of children Kindergarten to 5th grade, we suggest contacting our Children’s Ministry who program and sponsor an effective process that will clearly communicate the biblical basis as well as ensure that children observe baptism with clear understanding of their baptism’s significance.
